Aux
lieux d’une œuvre : Gérald Hervé (1928-1998)
28 octobre 2004 – 25 mars 2005

Voyageur du monde, voyageur des
lettres...
Romancier, essayiste, philosophe, Gérald Hervé a
Hervé’s life and works
Octobre 28th, 2004 – March 25th, 2005
Gérald
Hervé was born in Marseille in 1928. He studied law and
political science in Paris, was awarded a post in the Navy administration
and was initially drafted near to Saigon in September 1954. In
May 1955, the victim of anti-gay purges, he was dismissed from
the Navy. The background of his thinking is the result of the
May 1955 event. From humanist and liberal beginnings, this “inner
exile” conquered a singular independence of thought in relation
to contemporary trends and he pursued a broad meditation on the
sources of oppression and the essence of freedom.
