Catalogue of the correspondence of Augustin-Pyramus de Candolle

lettre de ramondloupe   lettre de DCloupe

The correspondence of the Genevan botanist Augustin-Pyramus de Candolle (1778-1841), founder of the CJB, is an exceptionally large unpublished corpus with some 5600 letters from 1251 correspondents issued from at least 24 different nationalities. This passive corpus is deposited in Geneva mainly between the Candolle's family and the CJB. It is supplemented by some 1226 letters from the hand of Candolle still deposited in the collections of his family, with some thousands of other letters present in different museums across Europe. It can therefore be estimated at some 10'000 letters sent and received by A.-P. de Candolle, including some 7000 letters present in Geneva.

The project aims to collect all the letters of Candolle (deposited in the CJB and the Candolle's family collections, with the letters present in the foreign institutions), to catalogue them through computer data processing in order to achieve an analytical inventory record for analyzing the network from an epistemological and sociological. point of view.
