Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree (petit) or shrub (grand), evergreen, 4 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, brownish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.1–2.4 cm. Stipules persistent, linear-triangular, 0.5–1 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 4–7 mm. Lamina elliptic to obovate, oblong (1:2), 3–5.5 X, 1–2.2 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate. Apex obtuse to acute. Apex rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0.2–0.5 cm. Margin revolute, crenate to dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 10–15 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 6–8 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, proliferating (au sommet des rameaux mâles).

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.2–2.7 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent (à poils très courts et espacés). Peduncles of order 1 3–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 0–1 tenth from the base or 5–7 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–1.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–3 tenth from the base. Bracts deltoids, pubescent, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.3–0.5 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous (quelques poils épars), 1.5–2 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate (très finement). Corolla 2–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–30 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis shorter than corolla. Rudimentary ovary subglobulous or flattened, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.7–1.5 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent (poils très courts épars). Peduncles of order 1 3–5 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 1–4 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate, pubescent, 0.5–1.5 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate, pubescent, 0.3–0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx pubescent (poils courts épars), margin ciliate or dentate (finement), 2–2.5 mm in diam. Corolla 2–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–30 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit green (immatures), 5–6 mm in diam., 5–6 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (Sao Paulo), en bord de rivière.

Flowering.— November to December.
