Ilex amara f. corcovadensis Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, reddish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.5–1.5 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.5–0.6 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 8–11 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 3.5–7.8 X, 1.6–3 cm, papyraceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute. Apex obtuse to acute, not mucronate. Apex acuminate. Acumen 0.3–0.8 cm. Margin revolute, crenate to dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 12–14 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 7–9 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 1.8–3.2 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 5–10 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–2 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Bracts linear-triangular, glabrous, 0.6–1.3 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoid, glabrous, 0.4–0.6 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, 1.7–1.9 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 2.5–2.7 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–30 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary subglobulous or flattened, glabrous.
