Ilex amboroica in litt. Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous or pubescent. Branchlets older than one year rough, glabrous or pubescent, sparse trichomes. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible (probablement). Internodes 0.5–2.1 cm. Stipules persistent, deltoid, 1 mm. Petiole glabrous (probablement), 5–8 mm. Lamina ovate to elliptic, oblong (1:2), 4.7–9 X, 1.5–2.8 cm, papyraceous or coriaceous, glabrous abaxially (probablement). Base cuneate to obtuse. Apex obtuse, not mucronate. Apex acuminate. Margin crenate or dentate. Midbrid adaxially impressed. Midbrid abaxially raised. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 8–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Male flowers.— Cymes of order 2–3. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 11–16 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Bracts deltoids, 1 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 0.5–1 mm (plus petit que 1 mm dans le texte de LOESENER 1909). Male flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx 2 mm in diam. Corolla 2 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–25 % of their length. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary subglobulous or flattened, glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Bolivia, 1300–1400 m.
