Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen, 1–3 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent or hirsute ("long white hairs when young"). Branchlets older than one year pubescent, dense short trichomes (poils doux). Petiole pubescent, 1–2 mm. Lamina elliptic, orbiculate (1:1), 0.5–1.2(–2) X, 0.5–1.2 cm, coriaceous, pubescent abaxially. Base rounded. Apex rounded. Apex rounded. Margin revolute, entire or dentate, teeth inconspicuous (les feuilles du bas portent parfois des petites dents de 0.5 mm de long). Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised, pubescent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 1–2 mm. Female flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx pubescent, 2–3 mm in diam. Corolla 2.8–3 mm, petals connate on, petals 30–40 % of their length. Apex margin ciliate. Stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit black, ovoid, 5–6 mm in diam., 5–6 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (Bahia: Sierra do Sincorá), 1100–1500 m, grassland, low shrub, scattered woodland; very common on middle grass slopes.

Flowering.— January or February or March.
