Ilex brandegeeana Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, 9 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year rough, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.1–0.3 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 1 mm. Petiole pubescent, rough or grooved surface, 5–6 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 3.5–7 X, 2–3 cm, papyraceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse to rounded. Apex rounded to obtuse, mucronate. Apex rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0.5 cm. Margin revolute, dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 10–15 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous to pubescent on proximal half. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 6–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 4–6 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5 tenth of the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate, glabrous to pubescent, 0.5–1 mm, margin ciliate (légèrement ciliée). Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate (cilié), 2 mm in diam. Corolla 2 mm, petals connate on, petals 10 % of their length. Apex margin ciliate.

Fruits.— Fruit red, spherical, 7–8 mm in diam., 7–8 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— Central America, Mexico, 2000 m, Bosque, ladera de cerro.

Flowering.— October.
