Ilex brevipetiolata in litt. Steyerm. & Wurdack

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen, 10 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 1–2 mm. Lamina ovate to elliptic, oblong (1:2), 4–6 X, 2.8–4.2 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse to rounded. Apex rounded to obtuse. Apex rounded or acuminate (très court). Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed to flat. Midbrid abaxially raised. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 6–10 pairs. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating or proliferating.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 7 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–6 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 3–4 mm. Female flowers 4–5 -merous. Calyx pubescent.

Fruits.— Fruit spherical, 5 mm in diam., 5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Bolívar: Uaipán-tepui), 1400 m, forêt basse de versant.
