Ilex cerasifolia v. glaziovii (Warm.) Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Evergreen. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed (lisses), reddish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.5–1.5 cm. Stipules caducous, deltoid, 0.5–0.8 mm. Petiole glabrous (jeunes) or pubescent (vieilles), rough or grooved surface, 13–15 mm. Lamina elliptic, lanceolate (1:3), 3–9 X, 1.2–2.8 cm, papyraceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute. Apex acute, mucronate. Apex acuminate. Acumen 0.6–1 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 7–9 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.5 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 3–5 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 1–5 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate (triangulaires), pubescent, 1 mm, margin ciliate or dentate. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate (linéaires), pubescent, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous (quelques poils), margin ciliate or dentate, 2 mm in diam. Corolla 2 mm, petals free (bouillir fleur). Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma capitate to columnar, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit ovoid, 4 mm in diam., 5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil.
