Ilex davidsei Steyerm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree (fin), evergreen, 8 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, reddish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.2–1.2 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.2 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 5–8 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 4–7.5 X, 1.5–3 cm, papyraceous to coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute to obtuse. Apex obtuse, not mucronate. Apex acuminate. Acumen 0.5–1.2 cm. Margin revolute, crenate, teeth inconspicuous. Teeth 6–10 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 5–8 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrsoid, heterocladic (pourquoi pas homocladique ? Ca semble être le cas sur l'holotype de MO. A vérifier) or homocladic, with subthyrsoids alternate.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 1.3–1.7 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 0.5–1 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 0.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Male flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, 2.5–3 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 1.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–30 % of their length. Apex margin ciliate. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary subpear-shaped, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 1–2 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 1 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 4–5 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate, glabrous, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate, glabrous or pubescent, 0.3 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, margin ciliate or dentate, 2.5–3 mm in diam. Corolla 2–3 mm, petals connate on, petals 30 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma mamillate, stigma glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Amazonas, Rio Casiquiare), 110 m, Le long du Rio Pacimoni entre Cano Arapacua et Cano Boridahari.

Flowering.— March to April.
