Ilex duidae in litt. Gleason

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year rough, glabrous. Internodes 1.5–3 cm. Stipules caducous. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 3 mm. Lamina elliptic to obovate, orbiculate (1:1) to oblong (1:2), 5–8 X, 3.5–5.5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base rounded. Apex rounded to obtuse. Apex retuse or acuminate. Acumen 0.1–0.2 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 5–6 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, proliferating.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 2–4 mm. Female flowers 5 -merous. Calyx glabrous. Corolla 2.7 mm, petals connate on. Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma mamillate, stigma glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Amazonas: Cerro Duida), 1000–1200 m, Meadows on open ridges overlying sandstone.
