Habit, vegetative morphology.— Petit tree or shrub, evergreen, 1–3 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.1–1 cm. Stipules persistent, deltoid, 0.5–1 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 0.7–1.4 mm. Lamina elliptic or obovate, orbiculate (1:1) or oblong (1:2), 4.2–11.4 X, 2.3–4.5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate or acute. Apex rounded or obtuse, not mucronate. Apex retuse or rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0.3–0.5 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 7–9 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly present (peu visible sur Maguire 23146 COL).

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Cymes of order 2–3. Peduncles glabrous or pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 2–6 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–7 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–2 mm. Male flowers 4–5 -merous, of another color than white, yellow or green (blanc-verdâtre). Calyx 2–3 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 2.5 mm. Stamens at the anthesis shorter than corolla.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.2–0.3 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles glabrous or pubescent (poils très courts et espacés). Peduncles of order 1 3–5 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 1–5 tenth of the base. Bracts deltoids, glabrous, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, pubescent, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4–5 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin ciliate or dentate, 2–3 mm in diam. Stigma mamillate or capitate, glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit red, ovoid, 5–6 mm in diam., 4–6 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, British Guyana (Kaieteur Plateau), 400–500 m, savannah woodland (bush island).

Flowering.— April or May.
