Ilex farallonensis Cuatrec.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree (petit), evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous or pubescent (quelques poils). Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed or rough, greyish or brownish, glabrous or pubescent, sparse trichomes. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.1–2 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.4–0.7 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 4–8 mm. Lamina elliptic or obovate, oblong (1:2), 2–5.5 X, 1.4–3.5 cm, coriaceous (papyracé chez les très jeunes feuilles), glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate or acute or obtuse. Apex rounded or obtuse, mucronate or not mucronate. Apex retuse or emarginate or rounded. Margin revolute, entire or crenate or dentate, teeth inconspicuous. Teeth 0–4 ca., over the entire length of the margin or on the distal half of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed or raised (souvent moitié distale au moins moitié proximale), glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident or obscure, 3–5 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.15–0.4 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 2–7 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 0–1 tenth of the base. Bracts deltoids or linear-triangulate, glabrous, 0.5–1.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous, of another color than white, yellow or green (blanc-verdâtre). Calyx pubescent, margin entire, 2–2.6 mm in diam. Corolla 2–3 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–15 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma capitate or columnar, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit ovoid, 1.3–2.2 mm in diam. (fruits immatures), 2.2–3.5 mm (fruits immatures).

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Colombia (Los Farallones), 2950–3000 m.
