Ilex glabella Steyerm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, greyish or reddish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 1–3 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.5 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 10–11 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2) to lanceolate (1:3), 10–16 X, 4.5–6 cm, papyraceous to coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base rounded or truncate. Apex obtuse to acute, mucronate. Apex acuminate. Acumen 1–1.5 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 11–13 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present (mais peu aisée à distinguer).

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.3 cm. Cymes of order 2–3. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 6–12 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 6–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 3–5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth from the base or 3–5 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 3 3–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite or subopposite, deltoid, glabrous, 0.3–0.5 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, 1.5–2 mm in diam., margin entire. Corolla 1.5 mm (selon Steyermark 1988, en boutons ?).

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Amazonas: Cerro de la Neblina), 780 m, le long d'une rivière?.

Flowering.— March.
