Ilex glazioviana Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Current year's branchlets pubescent (poils très courts). Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, brownish or reddish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.1–0.6 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.5–0.7 mm. Petiole glabrous (parfois quelques poils très courts visibles à la loupe uniquement), rough or grooved surface, 2–3 mm. Lamina elliptic or obovate, oblong (1:2), 1–2 X, 0.5–1 cm, coriaceous. Base cuneate or acute. Apex rounded or obtuse, not mucronate. Apex rounded. Margin revolute, dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 2–4 ca., on the distal half of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed or flat, pubescent on proximal half. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 2–4 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating or proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary or terminal. Thyrses axes 0.2–6 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 4–6 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 2–4 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 2–3 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 1–2 tenth from the base. Bracts linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.5–1.5 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.5–0.7 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, 1.5–3 mm in diam., margin entire. Corolla 1.5–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–30 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla or shorter than corolla. Rudimentary ovary subglobulous or flattened, glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro).
