Ilex goudotii Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen, 15–25 m tall. 18–40 cm dbh. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, brownish, pubescent, sparse trichomes. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.5–2 cm. Stipules caducous, deltoid or linear-triangular, 0.7–2 mm. Petiole pubescent, rough or grooved surface, 6–12 mm. Lamina ovate to elliptic, oblong (1:2), 6–8.5 X, 2.5–4 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially (sauf sur les jeunes feuilles). Base cuneate to acute. Apex acute, not mucronate. Apex acuminate (acumen souvent cassé, ou si présent peu marqué). Acumen 0.7–1 cm. Margin revolute (faiblement marquée), entire or dentate. Teeth 4 ca., on the distal half of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent on proximal half or pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised, pubescent on proximal half or pubescent. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 7–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, proliferating.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.5–1.3 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 8–11 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–8 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 1.5–2.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate, pubescent, 1.5–2.5 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate, pubescent, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 5–6 -merous, white. Calyx pubescent, margin entire, 2–3 mm in diam. Corolla 2 mm, petals connate on, petals 30–40 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit spherical or flattened, 3–3.5 mm in diam., 2.5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Colombia Peru, 2100 m, "Bosque" andin de pérennes et décidues: forêt primaire de montagne (dominée par Dictyocaryum).
