Ilex integerrima (Vell.) Reissek

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree or shrub, evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.4–2 cm. Stipules persistent, linear-triangular, 0.5 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 12–25 mm. Lamina elliptic or obovate, oblong (1:2) or lanceolate (1:3), 6–12(–16) X, 2–5.5(–6.5) cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate or acute. Apex rounded or obtuse, not mucronate. Apex retuse or rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0–0.3 cm. Margin revolute, entire or dentate, teeth inconspicuous. Teeth 1–2 ca., on the distal half of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 7–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 7–14 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1.5–3 mm. Bracts linear-triangular, glabrous, 1 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, 0.5 mm. Male flowers 4–5(–6) -merous, white. Calyx glabrous or pubescent (poils espacés), 2.5–3 mm in diam., margin entire or margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 3–5 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–15 % of their length. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary pyramidal.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 6–15 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 4–6 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate, glabrous, 1 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, 0.5 mm. Female flowers 4–5(–6) -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, 2.5–4 mm in diam. Corolla 3.5–4.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 5–10 % of their length. Staminodes sagittate. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma mamillate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit ovoid, 7–8 mm in diam., 10–12 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (sud du Brésil).
