Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen, 10–30 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, brownish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.1–2 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 1 mm. Petiole glabrous, smooth surface or rough or grooved surface, 13–22 mm. Lamina elliptic, orbiculate (1:1) to oblong (1:2), 6–13 X, 4–8 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse. Apex obtuse, not mucronate. Apex emarginate or acuminate. Acumen 0.3–0.5 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 5–8 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating or proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 1–2 cm. Cymes of order 2–3. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 6–16 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1.5–2.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–2 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 3 1.5–2.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–2 tenth from the base. Bracts deltoids or linear-triangular, glabrous, 0.5–2 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoid, glabrous, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4–5 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, 2–3 mm in diam., margin entire. Corolla 2.5–3 mm, petals free or connate on (par le filet des étamines), petals 5–10 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis longer than corolla. Rudimentary ovary pyramidal, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.2–11 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 6–8 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 2–5 tenth of the base. Bracts deltoids, glabrous, 0.5–1.5 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, glabrous, 0.3–0.7 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 5 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, margin entire (irrégulière), 3–5 mm in diam. Corolla 2–3 mm, petals connate on, petals 15–20 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma mamillate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit green, spherical, 8–11 mm in diam., 8–10 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Peru, 100–1400 m, Forêt dense humide sempervirente, Fdh andine sempervirente: Varillal, forêt primaire des nuages (sur sol recouvert de sable blanc?), Bosque primario sobre roca arenisca y abundante material ornico.

Flowering.— March to April or October to November.

Vernacular name.— Campau (Rodríguez & al. 1033).
