Ilex lilianeae Loizeau & Spichiger

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen, 1 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year rough, brownish, glabrous or pubescent, dense short trichomes. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.1–1.5 cm. Stipules caducous, deltoid, 0.8–1 mm. Petiole pubescent, smooth surface, 4–6 mm. Lamina obovate, oblong (1:2), 3.5–5 X, 1.5–2.2 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate to obtuse. Apex rounded to obtuse, mucronate. Apex rounded. Margin plane (sauf à la base du limbe), dentate, teeth aristate. Teeth 10–14 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent on proximal half or pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous (à part quelques poils épars). Secondary veins abaxially evident, 5–7 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present (difficilement visible).

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 2–3 (4?). Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 6–10 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 6–8 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 1.5–2 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–2 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 3 1–1.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–1 tenth of the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, pubescent, 1 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 5 -merous, white. Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate, 2–3 mm in diam. Corolla 2.5–3 mm, petals free or connate on (par les filets des étamines), petals 10–20 % of their length. Apex margin ciliate. Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma mamillate or capitate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit green (immature), spherical, 3–5 mm in diam., 3–5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Peru, 2700–2900 m, Végétation sèche des vallées de l'intérieur des Andes: mosaïque forêt-savane sur pente modérée à escarpée calcaire.

Flowering.— July.
