Ilex lundii Warm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, brownish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.2–2.5 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.5–0.8 mm. Petiole pubescent, rough or grooved surface, 9–15 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2) or lanceolate (1:3), 5–10 X, 1.8–4 cm, papyraceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse. Apex rounded or obtuse, mucronate. Apex rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0.2–0.6 cm. Margin revolute (très finement), entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent on proximal half. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous or pubescent on proximal half. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 8–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes issued from several axillary buds. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.3 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 4–9 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 3–7 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 2–3 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 1–2 tenth from the base. Bracts linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite or subopposite, linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.3–0.5 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4–5 -merous. Calyx glabrous (quelques poils épars), 1.5–2 mm in diam., margin entire. Corolla 2–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 5 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary pyramidal, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes issued from several axillary buds. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.3 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 4–7 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 4–6 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate, pubescent, 0.4–0.6 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 subopposite or absent, pubescent (poils réunis sur la nervure centrale des préfeuilles), 0.3–0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4–5 -merous. Calyx pubescent, margin entire, 1.5–2 mm in diam. Corolla 2.5–3 mm, petals connate on, petals 5 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit black (noir-violet), spherical, 3–5 mm in diam., 3–5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (Minas Gerais, São Paulo).
