Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen, 4–5 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year rough, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes (0.3–)0.5–1.5 cm. Stipules caducous, deltoid, 0.2–0.5 mm. Petiole glabrous, smooth surface, 3–10 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 3–5.5 X, 1.5–3 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base attenuate or cuneate or acute. Apex rounded or obtuse, mucronate. Apex rounded. Margin revolute, dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 5–7 ca., on the distal half of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 5–6 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary or terminal. Thyrses axes 5–7 cm. Cymes of order 1–3. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 8–12 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 2–6 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Bracts linear-triangular, glabrous, 0.5–0.8 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangular, glabrous, 0.3–0.5 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, 1–1.5 mm in diam., margin entire. Corolla 1.5–2 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–15 % of their length. Apex margin ciliate. Stamens at the anthesis shorter than corolla. Rudimentary ovary pyramidal, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary or terminal. Thyrses axes 0.2–7 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 10–30 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–8 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 5–10 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 5–6 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 3 3–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–1 tenth of the base. Bracts deltoids, glabrous, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate, glabrous, 0.5–0.9 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin entire, 1.5–2 mm in diam. Corolla 2–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–15 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma mamillate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit red or black, spherical, 3–5 mm in diam., 3–5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (Paraná), 900–1100 m, Forêt galerie, lisière de forêt, matinha nebular.

Flowering.— November.
