Ilex microsticta Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, reddish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present (allongées). Internodes 1–1.5 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 1 mm. Petiole glabrous, smooth surface, 8–10 mm. Lamina elliptic to obovate, oblong (1:2), 7–8 X, 4–4.5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate to acute. Apex rounded to obtuse, mucronate. Apex rounded. Margin plane or revolute, dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 8–20 ca., over the entire length of the margin (plus nombreuses à l'apex). Midbrid adaxially raised (sillonnée au centre), glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 7–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 5–6. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 10–20 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–7 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 5–10 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 5–7 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 3 2–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 5–7 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 4 2–3 mm. Pherophylls of order 4 at 3–7 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 5 1 mm. Pherophylls of order 5 at 0–1 tenth of the base (l'ordre 6 est réduit à des boutons à l'aisselle des préfeuilles de l'ordre 5). Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, linear-triangulate, glabrous, 2–2.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin entire, 2.5–3 mm in diam. Corolla 3–3.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–25 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Peru, 2000–2500 m, Bosque andin de pérennes et décidues: forêt basse sempervirente.
