Ilex oliveriana in litt. Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree or shrub, evergreen, 5–7 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Internodes 0–1.5 cm. Stipules deltoid, 0.25 mm. Petiole 3–5 mm. Lamina elliptic to obovate, oblong (1:2) to lanceolate (1:3), 3.5–7 X, 1–1.7 cm, papyraceous to coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute. Apex acute. Apex acuminate. Acumen 0.4–1 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed. Midbrid abaxially raised. Secondary veins 7–10 pairs.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, proliferating.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 5–6 mm. Female flowers 4–5 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin entire, 2 mm in diam. Corolla 2.5–2.8 mm, petals connate on. Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma capitate.

Fruits.— Fruit spherical.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela British Guyana (Bolívar: SE Gran Sabana, Macizo del Chimanta. Guyana), 800–1200(–1700) m, forêt-galerie, forêt de montagne.

Flowering.— December.
