Ilex paruensis in litt. Steyerm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen, 2 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent (avec des lignes de poils verticales). Petiole pubescent, 2 mm. Lamina obovate, oblong (1:2), 2.5–3.5 X, 1.5–2.3 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute. Apex rounded, mucronate. Apex rounded. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised, pubescent. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 4–5 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating or proliferating.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 2. Peduncles pubescent (densément). Peduncles of order 1 3 mm. Peduncles of order 2 1–3 mm. Calyx glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit 3 mm in diam. (immature), 3 mm (immature).

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Amazonas: Serranía Parú), 1100 m, Savannes herbacées sur plateaux grèseux.

Flowering.— September to October.
