Ilex pseudoëbenacea Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree or shrub (petit), evergreen, 3–7 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0–2 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 1 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 2–8 mm. Lamina elliptic to obovate, oblong (1:2), 4–8 X, 2–4 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse to rounded. Apex obtuse, not mucronate. Apex acuminate. Acumen 0.2 cm. Margin revolute, dentate, teeth inconspicuous. Teeth 6–7 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially impressed, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 5–8 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure (peu dense). Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 5–7 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 2–4 tenth of the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, glabrous, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 5 -merous, green. Calyx glabrous, margin entire, 4–5 mm in diam. (la mesure sous le fruit donne 6–7 mm). Ovary ovoid or spherical, glabrous, stigma mamillate or capitate.

Fruits.— Fruit ovoid, 10 mm in diam., 7.5 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Bolivia (Huaycani), 3000–3500 m.
