Ilex pustulosa Triana

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, brownish (noirâtre), glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.4–4.5 cm. Stipules caducous, deltoid, 0.5–1.3 mm. Petiole glabrous, smooth surface or rough or grooved surface, 11–25 mm. Lamina ovate or elliptic, oblong (1:2), 6–13 X, 5–9 cm, coriaceous (terriblement mangé par les insectes), glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse or rounded or truncate. Apex rounded or obtuse. Apex rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0–0.5 cm. Margin plane or revolute, dentate, teeth inconspicuous or conspicuous. Teeth 8–15 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 8–12 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrsoid, heterocladic, with subthyrsoids decussate.

Male flowers.— Cymes of order 1 3–4. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 5–14 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–10 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 2–5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 7–10 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 3 1–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 7–10 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 4 0–1 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite or subopposite, deltoid (foliacées), glabrous, 1–4.5 mm, margin ciliate. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, 1.5–2.2 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 1.8–2.2 mm.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 3–4 (-5–6?). Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 6–17 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 6–7 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 5–8 mm. Peduncles of order 3 4–6 mm. Peduncles of order 4 3 mm. Peduncles of order 5 3 mm (ordre 6: 1.5mm). Pherophylls of order 1 deltoids, pubescent (généralement à l'apex et très courtement), 1–2 mm, margin ciliate (très courtement, au moins à l'apex). Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin ciliate or dentate, 2.5–3 mm in diam. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate or columnar.

Fruits.— Fruit spherical, 4 mm in diam., 4 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Colombia (Norte de Santander, Cundinamarca), 1930–2000 m.
