Ilex retusa f. glaucescens Steyerm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub, evergreen, 1.5 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous or pubescent (très courtement). Branchlets older than one year rough, brownish, glabrous or pubescent, sparse trichomes. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.1–2 cm. Stipules caducous, deltoid, 0.2–0.3 mm. Petiole pubescent (poils très courts), rough or grooved surface, 2–3 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 2.2–3 X, 1.4–2.3 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse or rounded. Apex obtuse, mucronate. Apex retuse or rounded. Margin revolute (bordure fortement épaissie), dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 9–11 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed or flat, pubescent (très courtement). Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 4–6 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent (poils épars). Peduncles of order 1 3.5–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 5–7 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–1.5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 3–4 tenth of the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, pubescent, 1 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous, white or green. Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate, 3 mm in diam. Corolla 2.5–3 mm, petals connate on (?), petals 20–30 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded) (papilleuse). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Cerro Duida), 1820–2075 m, sommet du Cerro Duida, sur la crête (humide).
