Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree or shrub, evergreen, 1–6 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent (poils courts). Branchlets older than one year rough (à cause des restes de poils), brownish (claire), glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible. Internodes 0.2–1 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.8 mm. Petiole pubescent, rough or grooved surface, 2–5 mm. Lamina elliptic or obovate, orbiculate (1:1) or oblong (1:2), 2–4.5 X, 1–3 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse or rounded or truncate or cordate. Apex rounded, mucronate or not mucronate (t"t caduque). Apex retuse or rounded. Margin revolute (munie d'un bourrelet), dentate, teeth conspicuous. Teeth 3–5 8–15 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially impressed (légèrement) or flat, pubescent on proximal half or pubescent (à poils très courts). Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 3–5 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure (invisible). Ponctuation abaxiallly present (rarement absentes).

Inflorescences.— Thyrse or solitary dichasium.

Male flowers.— Cymes of order 2–4 (4 rarement). Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 3–8 mm (fleur centrale généralement absente). Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–10 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 2–4 mm (fleur centrale souvent absente). Pherophylls of order 2 at 4–6 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 3 1–2 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–3 tenth from the base. Bracts linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.5–1.2 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoid or linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx pubescent, 2 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 20–25 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis shorter than corolla (selon LOESENER 1901). Rudimentary ovary subpear-shaped, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 1–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 8–10 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 0 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0 tenth of the base. Bracts deltoids, pubescent, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids or linear-triangulate, pubescent, 0.3 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate, 3 mm in diam. Corolla 2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 30–40 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela British Guyana (Amazonas, Bolivar et Roraima), 1400–1800 m, Savanne, fourré.
