Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen, 5–50 m tall. 10–40 cm dbh. Current year's branchlets pubescent (poils très courts et espacés). Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.2–1.5 cm. Stipules persistent, deltoid, 0.3–0.6 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 3–14 mm. Lamina ovate or elliptic (rarement obovale), oblong (1:2), (3–)5–9(–11) X, 3–4(–4.5) cm, papyraceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate or acute or obtuse. Apex rounded or obtuse, mucronate. Apex retuse or emarginate or rounded or acuminate. Acumen 0.3–1.3 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 5–9 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating or proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.1–2 cm (et plus si la partie végétative continue à se développer). Cymes of order 2–3. Peduncles pubescent (poils très courts). Peduncles of order 1 6–17 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 6–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 2–3 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 3 2–3 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–1 tenth from the base. Bracts deltoids, glabrous or pubescent, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite or subopposite, deltoid, pubescent, 0.1–0.3 mm, margin entire. Male flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx pubescent, 1–2 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 2–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–15 % of their length. Apex margin ciliate. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary pyramidal, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 3–8 cm. Cymes of order 2–3. Peduncles pubescent (poils excessivement courts, visibles à la loupe). Peduncles of order 1 3–15 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 6–8 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 3–5 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 4–6 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 3 1–3 mm. Pherophylls of order 3 at 0–1 tenth of the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, pubescent (poils très courts, visibles à la loupe), 0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx pubescent (poils très courts), margin entire, 1–3 mm in diam. (en fruit).

Fruits.— Fruit red, spherical, 4–6 mm in diam., 4–6 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— Central America, Nicaragua or Costa Rica, 50–1000 m, forêts humides.

Flowering.— January.
