Ilex trachyphylla in litt. Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Evergreen. Branchlets older than one year pubescent, dense short trichomes. Internodes 0–2.8 cm. Petiole 2–6 mm. Lamina ovate to obovate, oblong (1:2), 5.5–9 X, 3.3–6.5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base rounded. Apex rounded, not mucronate. Apex retuse. Margin revolute, dentate, teeth inconspicuous. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised. Secondary veins 7–9 pairs. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1–2 (?). Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 20–30 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 8–9 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 3–6 mm. Bracts deltoids, pubescent, 5 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 1–1.5 mm. Female flowers 5–6 -merous. Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate, 4–6 mm in diam.

Fruits.— Fruit spherical, 6 mm in diam., 6 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Peru (Shanyn).
