Ilex uleana Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Shrub (selon LOESENER 1901), evergreen, 1–2 m tall (selon LOESENER 1901). Current year's branchlets pubescent (poils très courts et peu visibles à l'oeil nu). Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed, greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets absent or hardly visible (parfois éventuellement présents sur les rameaux de plus d'une année). Internodes 0–1.3 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.1 mm. Petiole pubescent (surtout sur la partie centrale du pétiole), rough or grooved surface, 3–5 mm. Lamina obovate, oblong (1:2), 3–4.2 X, 1.2–2 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate to acute. Apex rounded, not mucronate. Apex retuse. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed, pubescent. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 4–5 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 4–6 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 3–5 tenth of the base. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, pubescent, 0.5 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous (selon LOESENER 1901). Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate (selon LOESENER 1901), 2–3 mm in diam. Stigma mamillate (probablement), glabrous (probablement).

Fruits.— Fruit spherical, 4–6 mm in diam. (selon LOESENER 1901), 5–6 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Brazil (Amazonas, Cachoeiras de Marmellos), 100 m (probablement), campina.
