Ilex umbellata v. humirioides in litt. (Reissek) Loes.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree, evergreen. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year greyish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.1–2.5 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.5 mm. Petiole 4–10 mm. Lamina oblong (1:2), 3.5–8 X, 2.3–3.5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base cuneate to acute. Apex obtuse. Apex rounded or acuminate. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed. Midbrid abaxially raised, pubescent on proximal half. Secondary veins 6–9 pairs. Ponctuation abaxiallly absent (?).

Inflorescences.— Thyrse.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Cymes of order 2–4. Peduncles of order 1 5–13 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 8–9 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–2 mm. Bracts linear-triangular, pubescent, 0.5 mm, margin ciliate or dentate. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, 1 mm in diam., margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 1.5–2 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–20 % of their length. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary pyramidal, glabrous.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles of order 1 4–6 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–9 tenth of the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–2 mm. Bracts linear-triangulate, glabrous, 0.5 mm, margin ciliate or dentate. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin ciliate or dentate, 1 mm in diam. Corolla 2.75 mm, petals connate on, petals 10–20 % of their length. Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, British Guyana (Roraima, lac Tapakuma, fleuve Demerara).
