Ilex venezuelensis in litt. Steyerm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree or shrub, evergreen, 0.3–8 m tall. Current year's branchlets pubescent. Branchlets older than one year pubescent, dense short trichomes. Petiole pubescent, 3–4 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 1.5–2.9 X, 0.6–1 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute to obtuse. Apex rounded to obtuse, mucronate. Apex rounded or acuminate. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially impressed. Midbrid abaxially raised. Secondary veins abaxially obscure, 4–5 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Solitary dichasium.

Female flowers.— Cymes of order 1. Peduncles pubescent. Peduncles of order 1 7–13 mm. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx pubescent, margin ciliate or dentate. Corolla 2.5 mm, petals free or connate on, petals 10 % of their length.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Bolívar: Cerro Jaua, Macizo del Chimantá; Amazonas: Cerro Duida, Sierra de la Nebllina), 1700–2200 m, Tepui meadows, dwarf riparian forests, forested talus slopes, edges of escarpments.
