Ilex wurdackiana Steyerm.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Epiphytic shrub (sur Pouteria (Steyermark 104563)), evergreen. Current year's branchlets pubescent (poils courts). Branchlets older than one year rough, brownish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.2–1.5 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular, 0.2–0.3 mm. Petiole glabrous, rough or grooved surface, 1–3 mm. Lamina elliptic, oblong (1:2), 4–10.5 X, 2–6 cm, coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base obtuse or rounded or cordate (faut chercher...). Apex obtuse to acute, not mucronate. Apex acuminate. Acumen 0.4–1 cm. Margin revolute, entire. Midbrid adaxially raised, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially raised, glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 4–6 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident. Ponctuation abaxiallly present.

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating.

Male flowers.— Cymes of order 2. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 5–8 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 1–2 mm. Male flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous. Corolla 0.7–1 mm.

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.2 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 2.5–4 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 1–2 tenth of the base. Bracts deltoids, glabrous, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite, deltoids, glabrous, 0.2–0.3 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous. Calyx glabrous, margin entire, 1.5–2 mm in diam. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit green (greenish-white), spherical, 3–4 mm in diam., 3–4 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Venezuela (Bolívar: Cerro Venamo et alentours du Cerro Uei), 900–1200 m, Montane forests overlying sandstone.

Flowering.— November or December.
