Ilex yurumanguinis Cuatrec.

Habit, vegetative morphology.— Tree or shrub, evergreen, 2–15 m tall. Current year's branchlets glabrous. Branchlets older than one year smooth or furrowed (sillonnés), greyish or brownish, glabrous. Lenticels on current year's branchlets present. Internodes 0.2–4.5 cm. Stipules caducous, linear-triangular (linéaires), 2–2.5 mm. Petiole glabrous, smooth surface or rough or grooved surface, 4–22 mm. Lamina elliptic or obovate, oblong (1:2), 4–20 X, 2.5–9 cm, papyraceous or coriaceous, glabrous abaxially. Base acute or obtuse or rounded. Apex rounded or obtuse, not mucronate. Apex retuse or rounded or acuminate (probablement rétus par déformation). Acumen 0.5–1.3 cm. Margin plane or revolute (généralement finement), crenate or dentate, teeth inconspicuous. Teeth 7–23 ca., over the entire length of the margin. Midbrid adaxially flat (parfois) or raised, glabrous. Midbrid abaxially flat or raised (c/o plupart spec. femelles), glabrous. Secondary veins abaxially evident, 5–10 pairs. Tertiary veins abaxially evident or obscure. Ponctuation abaxiallly present (parfois peu visible).

Inflorescences.— Thyrse, non proliferating or proliferating.

Male flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.3 cm. Cymes of order 1–2. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 5–10 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 7–8 tenth from the base. Peduncles of order 2 0.5–2 mm. Pherophylls of order 2 at 0–6 tenth from the base. Bracts deltoids or linear-triangular, glabrous, 0.5–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite or subopposite or alternate, deltoid, glabrous, 0.1–0.3 mm, margin entire (mais irrégulière). Male flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, 1–1.5 mm in diam., margin entire. Corolla 1.5–2.5 mm, petals connate on, petals 5 % of their length. Apex margin entire. Stamens at the anthesis equal to corolla. Rudimentary ovary subglobulous or flattened (2subglob 1aplati), glabrous (papilleux).

Female flowers.— Thyrses axes solitary and axillary. Thyrses axes 0.1–0.3 cm. Cymes of order 1. Peduncles glabrous. Peduncles of order 1 3–9 mm. Pherophylls of order 1 at 1–8 tenth of the base. Bracts linear-triangulate, glabrous, 0.7–1 mm, margin entire. Pherophylls of order 1 opposite or subopposite or alternate, deltoids, glabrous, 0.1–0.2 mm, margin entire. Female flowers 4 -merous, white. Calyx glabrous, margin entire, 1.5–2 mm in diam. Corolla 1.5–2 mm, petals free (libres lorsque les fleurs sont fécondées et qu'il ne reste presque plus de corolles sur les inflorescences) or connate on, petals 5 % of their length. Apex margin entire (possibly beaded). Staminodes sagittate, glabrous. Ovary spherical, glabrous, stigma capitate, stigma glabrous.

Fruits.— Fruit black (noirâtre) or green (immature?) or of another color than red, black or green (rose: probablement immature), spherical, 4.5–6 mm in diam., 4–7 mm.

Distribution, ecology.— South America, Colombia Ecuador, 0–1700 m, Bosque pluvial, mature pluvial forest being semi-selectively logged, lower montane forest.

Flowering.— February or March or May or June (ft) or August (ft) or September (fl., ft) or October.
