Flora of the Alps

From 1992 on, the Conservatory and Botanical Garden of the City of Geneva conducted a series of works, to gather essential data on vascular plants of the Alps. These informations (nomenclatural, biological, phenological, chorological, ecological and phytosociological) were published in 2004 in an illustrated atlas of color photographs: Flora alpina (AESCHIMANN & al., 2004), summarizing the knowledge on the flora of the Alps. Currently, the program's objectives are the maintenance and operation of the computerized database.

Flora alpina, the first atlas of the 4500 vascular plant species of the Alps (AESCHIMANN & al., 2004) contains about 500'000 data (nomenclature, biology, phenology, chorology, ecology and phytosociology). In order to characterize the flora of the alpine arc, cross-statistical analysis of these data highlight features of this biodiversity (the flora envisaged globally, by vegetation belt, by province, by biological form, by habitat, etc .).
