Fascinating Lebanon
Sixty centuries of history of religions, art and archaeology
- Fri 30/11/12 - Sun 31/03/13
- Musée Rath| Place Neuve
Situated astride the trade routes between East and West, Lebanon has a fascinating ancient history at the crossroads of the great civilisations of Antiquity. Thanks to an exceptional collaboration with the National Museum in Beirut, this exhibition offers a selection of some 350 archaeological objects and works of art, never before seen in Europe.
From Bronze Age funeral rites at Byblos to the Arab conquest, not forgetting the arrival of Christianity and Islam, the presentation explores the multiple facets of the relation developed over the passage of time between the Lebanese, the Divine and the Hereafter. This event reveals the wealth of the collections preserved in the Lebanon, with monumental sarcophagi, Byzantine mosaics, steles, votive statues, icons and Melkite manuscripts.
Audio guides: OPAS application for adults or children can be loaded for free on both Apple store and Android market. Multimedia devices can also be rented for 5 CHF at the desk by the exhibition entrance.
The Musées d'Art et d'Histoire of the city of Geneva wish to express their gratitude to all the sponsors, donors and partners who contributed to the realisation of the exhibition Fascinating Lebanon.
