The Ariana museum lets go of its reserve

The Musée Ariana is initiating with this exhibition a series of thematic presentations that are primarily centred around its own collections, particularly works that are rarely or never seen by the general public. This kind of exhibit also represents an occasion to show various aspects of the work done by a museum : restoration, scientific documentation of objects, the problem of identifying forgeries and imitations, etc. From the beginnings of archaic majolica in the late Middle Ages to the historicist replicas of the 19th century, the exhibition provides the largest possible overview of the main production centres for Italian faience, as documented in the Museum’s archives.
