Ornament, Design and Industry
The Applied Arts in Geneva
- Fri 15/10/10 - Sun 01/05/11
- Musée d'art et d'histoire| Rue Charles-Galland 2
Envisaged as a didactic tool, the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, at the time of its creation, gave pride of place to the applied arts, a vast domain with shifting boundaries where art and object meet for the enhancement of the everyday. It is therefore legitimate to celebrate, on the Centenary of the institution, Genevan expertise in this field which combines ornament, design and industry. From Elna sewing machines to the shoes of Walter Steiger, watchmaking to interior design, all of these objects reveal a heritage of Geneva whose renown has travelled far beyond the gates of the city.
