Message of the Director
To understand Geneva and encounter world cultures
The flagship building of the Musées d’Art et d’Histoire network of museums is a magnificent edifice, built by Marc Camoletti in 1910. The complex also includes the Cabinet d’Arts Graphiques (Graphics Arts Collection) and the Bibliothèque d’Art et d’Archéologie (Art and Archaeology Library) at Promenade du Pin; the Musée Rath, today devoted to major exhibitions; and the Maison Tavel (Tavel House), home to the City of Geneva history museum. One of Switzerland’s greatest sources of pride, the Musées d’Art et d’Histoire network is among the country’s most extensive and frequented institutions. The level of activity remains constant despite current renovation and extension project undertaken to better welcome the public to the collections themselves as well as to the museum’s cultural and economic initiatives.
Sponsorship is crucial to the Musées d’Art de d’Histoire and important in all its projects, which include building renovation, organization of major cultural events and exhibitions, cultural outreach programmes to facilitate understanding for all publics, collections enrichment, and artwork restoration. Our museum network’s sponsorship is unique in creating initiatives both specific and pertinent to each sponsor.
World cultures truly meet here. Our influence is unique for the breadth and diversity of its underlying knowledge and encyclopaedic approach. Deeply rooted in the city's past and yet turned to its future, accessible to all, the Musées d’Art et d’Histoire faithfully reflect Geneva's individual identity.
