Notice

Presented to the patron saints and the landowners, the harvest bundles were a recognisance of debt and a demand for compensation. They were a reminder of the duty to share the work and the fruits of the labour. In Poland, farming communities still make sheaves for Marian celebrations. They give rise to contests which update these ancient rituals.
