Family  HALIOTIDAE
( or  ABALONES )

Main  features  of  the  family : 

These  are  ear-shaped  shells  with  a  nacreous  shell  lining. 
Abalones  possess  a  series  of  holes  on  the  body  whorl,  
through  which  water  and  wastes  are  passed.

Only  one  species  of  abalone  has  been  recorded  from  the  Galápagos  Islands 
(FINET, 1994).
