Édition originale d'un appel contre la condamnation à mort prononcé à l'égard de Knox en 1556. La publication, relativement tardive, arrive à un moment de reprise des persécutions en Écosse. Il y ajoute un appel aux frères de la communauté écossaise. L'admonition de Gilby invite l'Angleterre et l'Écosse à la repentance et au rapprochement. Analyse des documents dans Martin, Protestants anglais, p. 216-224.
L'identification des imprimeurs est basée sur l'analyse du matériel typographique des trois éditions de Knox en 1558 : la présente Appellation (GLN 1634), le First Blast (GLN 1635) et la Copie of a letter (GLN 2093). Cette dernière est signée par Poullain et Reboul, alros que les deux autres sont anonymes. |
