Ecology and distribution

Biology : Spiny, succulent shrub or tree, usually to 4-5 m tall (sometimes to 10 m), with a stout trunk and spreading, often at first descending, arcuate-ascending, usually finally erect branches, which often much exceed the central trunk;
Ecology : Areas of seasonal or perennial vleis, generally in or at the margins of thickets and small patches of woodland, often in association with E. lividiflora, Aloe marlothii, Hyphaene sp..
  Near E. breviarticulata. Most plentiful specimens have the general aspect, from a distance, of large specimens of E. cooperi.
