Biology : Spiny succulent shrub to 1 m tall, acaulescent with numerous branches arising at random from an irregularly shaped, partially exposed, somewhat tuberous caudex bearing a congested mass of hard fibrous roots;
Ecology : Savanna by waterfalls; in fibrous mats on rocky quartzite outcrops; 1150 m alt.
  Presents no unusual difficulties in cultivation, but uncommon.
  Near E. atrocarmesina ; superficially resembling E. buruana.
