Biology : Succulent shrub or tree 4-6 m tall, with erect rather stiff branching and large (12x6 cm) deciduous leaves; usually cactus-like; branches thick, fleshy, 1,5-3,5 cm thick, 3-5-angled with spines in pairs along the edges;
Ecology : Rocky hills in savanna; sometimes planted around villages; 780 m alt.
  Near E. teke.
