Biology : Succulent with simple subglobose-cylindrical stem to 11x7,5 cm, usually less, covered by spirally arranged close-packed truncate tubercles with the upper margins produced upwards;

Ecology : Very open deciduous bushland with main cover of small shrublets belonging to the Acanthaceae and Labiatae on low, probably gypsum-bearing, ridges (or limestone?); 1000-1050 m alt. The plant is restricted to two very local patches; etc...
  Still quite rare in cultivation.
  A highly specialized succulent whose affinities are uncertain ( E. turbiniformis, E. horwoodii ). The nearest is E. gymnocalycioides.
