Biology : Stems slender, branched from the base, several from a woody rootstock, erect or suberect, 20-45 cm tall or occasionally ± twining above, then 60-75 cm long, very sparingly branched.
Ecology : Pastures by hills among low bushes, in company with several species of Gnidia and many Irideae, on a schistose sandy soil; dry thickets; ± 1800 m alt.
  Variable in habit.
