  Extremely variable, with much taxonomic confusion as a result.
  Can be distinguished from other African species by the presence of 3 or more wings on the spathe.
  Egypt; widespread throughout India, E and SE Asia, N Australia; scattered localities in Europe, W Asia, N. America.
