Ecology : Shallow still water; usually in temporary pools; muddy streams; often associated with papyrus, Thelypteris, Limnophyton; water depth 10-30 cm; 1000-1750 m alt.
  Closely related to B. radicans Ridley and vicariant of the Asian B. octandra (Roxb.) Planchon ex Thwaites.
